Sydney to Auckland Tall Ships Regatta 2013

The 2013 Sydney to Auckland Tall Ships Regatta is a unique event which features Australian and International Tall Ships visits to Melbourne, Hobart, Sydney and Auckland, New Zealand. It is the first ever Sail Training International event to be held in Australasian waters. The Tall Ship Fleet will depart from Sydney on 10 October 2013 and race fifteen days to Auckland, New Zealand.

While in Sydney the International Fleet Review will take place, on Saturday 5 October, including a moving line of Naval and civilian vessels on Sydney Harbour supported by formation fly-pasts by fixed and rotary wing aircraft, naval displays and demonstrations, naval gun salutes, dragon boat races and naval band performances. The day will culminate in a spectacular evening of pyrotechnics and a light show on the harbour.

You don't get any bigger than Sydney harbour for a host port. Famous among other ports for its superb location, Sydney is considered to have one of the most beautiful harbours of the world. Entrance to the heart of the harbour leads through North and South Heads, by the naval and military stations. The Sydney Auckland Tall Ship Regatta will be the finale of the International Fleet Review, a festivity of warships and Tall Ships, celebrating the centenary of the first entry of the Royal Australian Navy's Fleet into Sydney harbour.

After the world class festivities the tall ships will set sail for Auckland on the 11th October, crossing the Tasman Sea and concluding with a parade of sail through the Hauraki Gulf into Auckland on 25th October.

The city of Auckland is located in North Island Auckland is the biggest urban area in New Zealand in terms of population and territory. The city is situated between the Manukau Harbour on the Tasman Sea and Waitemata Harbour on the Pacific Ocean. Tall Ships Regatta 2013 will take place in the Waitemata Harbour as a part of Tall Ships Festival 2013 hosted by Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum.

What is sail training?

Sail Training is an adventure activity, which includes far more than sailing instruction. Participants are required to confront demanding challenges, both physical and emotional. It is an activity that inspires self-confidence and personal responsibility. It promotes an acceptance of others, whatever their social or cultural backgrounds, and develops a willingness to take controlled risks.

We here at YB Tracking are delighted to be providing tracking once again for Sail Training International. Each vessel will have a tracker installed on board which will be transmitting the position, speed and direction every sixty minutes. This means the trainees family, friends and supporters can cheer on and watch the fleets and individual ships progress from shore.
